Product Manager — Product · GTM · AI

Palak Mistry

A curious person who somehow turned asking “why?” into a career.

Building and launching products for India’s next billion consumers. I’ve spent 8+ years across Amazon and Jio, working on consumer products spanning devices, entertainment, AI and digital platforms.

An Economics & Psychology major turned product manager, I’m fascinated by what people actually do, what feels intuitive, and the little signals that tell you when something is working. I use those insights to shape products and features people want, then figure out how to position them, take them to market, and get them into customers’ hands.

How do you sell a luxury reading device in a market that reads for exams?

The challenge was never launching the product — it was making a premium, discretionary reading device feel valuable in a market where ~70% of book volumes are educational.

Competing with phones on functionality was the wrong strategy. I positioned Kindle around focus, distraction-free reading, comfort, portability, and a premium dedicated reading experience — then defined the India customer proposition and translated the global product into a locally relevant GTM across positioning, messaging, Amazon.in merchandising, and launch execution.

What if your TV understood what you meant, not just what you said?

Indian users rarely remember content by title. They remember the plot, the actor, the character, the language, the context — the vibe. That gap is where conversational discovery either works or fails.

I translated Alexa+'s capabilities into India-specific Fire TV use cases and multi-turn conversational discovery, so the TV could follow how people actually ask.

Alexa, play the movie where an Indian spy goes to Pakistan.

The one from yesterday.

Yes, play it.

Play the movie with Baburao Ganpatrao Apte.

One TV. Hundreds of channels. One experience.

Indian TV is fragmented across linear TV, OTT apps, and content providers.

JioTV+ brings these experiences together. My product work centred on content discovery, aggregation, navigation, and creating one unified TV experience.

From streaming app to entertainment platform.

My work on JioCinema focused on building and scaling the streaming experience through content discovery, engagement, personalization, and product iteration.

The product evolved from a streaming app toward an entertainment platform and the ecosystem that became JioHotstar.

About

I’ve spent my career trying to understand what makes people click — with products, ideas and experiences. I studied Economics & Psychology at NYU and have dedicated my career to listening to customer signals, reading people and teams, and turning those signals into products and decisions that bring things together.

Outside work, I’m usually chasing a great meal, planning my next trip, singing karaoke, or dabbling in stand-up comedy. I’m also the unofficial TV & movie recommender in every friend group — basically Alexa, but with opinions. I care deeply about animal rights and have a Yorkie named Truffle who features heavily in my camera roll.
